As a veteran-friendly senior living community in Macon, Georgia, Carlyle Place is proud to support those who have served our country—not just during Military Appreciation Month, but every day of the year. For us, honoring veterans isn’t just a day on the calendar. It’s part of our culture, which is reflected in our traditions, residents, and the many ways we continue to come together. Here are 5 special ways our community salutes its heroes.
1. A Living Tribute: The Veterans Wall of Honor
One of the most meaningful reminders of service at Carlyle Place is the Veterans Wall of Honor. Our custom display features more than 250 photos of current and former residents who have served in the U.S. military. Each photograph represents a story of courage and commitment. For residents and visitors alike, the wall is more than a display—it’s a daily reminder of the values that shape Carlyle Place and the people who call it home.
2. Special Military Ceremonies of Remembrance
Throughout the year, we honor military service through meaningful ceremonies held in our Grande Ballroom. Our Veterans Day and Memorial Day observances, for example, bring residents together and often include patriotic music, guest speakers, and even a presentation of colors led by local Boy Scout troops. What makes these ceremonies meaningful is the care and intention behind them. They are traditions that allow us all to remember and give thanks.
3. Resident-Led Celebrations and Personal Recognition
At Carlyle Place, our veterans are not only honored; they’re actively involved in shaping how we celebrate their service.
Resident veterans play an important role in planning ceremonies by selecting speakers, offering invocations, and contributing to musical and program elements. Their involvement ensures that each celebration feels deeply personal and authentic.
We also take time to recognize individual veterans through special presentations, including slideshows that highlight the personal lives and stories of residents within our community.
4. Volunteer and Travel Opportunities for Residents
Honoring service also includes supporting those who are currently serving. Many residents volunteer in partnership with the United Service Organizations (USO), which includes card-making initiatives for active-duty military members. Some residents have also had the opportunity to participate in Honor Flight, which is a program that has taken more than 200,000 veterans to visit memorial sites in D.C. and 130 other locations nationwide.
5. A Special Discount for Those Who Served
We’re proud to share that all veterans are eligible for a 5% entrance fee discount as a token of appreciation for their service. Beyond this benefit, you’ll get to join a community that values your experience, listens to your stories, and celebrates your history year-round.
