Culture and Classes

Do more, experience more, celebrate more

Staying active mentally, physically and socially not only keeps us healthy, but also it’s fun! And at Carlyle Place, you’ll find it’s never been easier.

Get curious. Learn to brew your own beer. Create tasty Cajun dishes. Take up Spanish. Analyze a crime scene like a forensic expert. There’s an endless variety of lectures and classes led by professors, masters and talented enthusiasts—including many of our residents. Have a special skill or expertise you’d like to share? Consider teaching a class yourself!

You also have access to the Wesleyan Academy of Lifelong Learning (WALL). Interact with college students of all ages in classes that are interesting and enlightening regardless of your prior education.

Get creative. Try your hand at painting. Delve into theater. Sharpen your woodworking skills. Or explore a love for music. Whether creating or listening, you’ll find fellow fans and opportunities to enjoy the full gamut—from Mozart and Otis Redding to the Allman Brothers, Jason Aldean and many more.

Get moving. Want to get your blood pumping? If you’re in the mood for some physical activity, there’s pickleball, Wii bowling, clogging, hiking, biking, swimming and other fitness classes.

Get involved. Join one of the many resident committees and share your input on activities and events, building and grounds maintenance, management, marketing and more. Plus, plenty of volunteer opportunities enrich the surrounding community.

We love all the games. We play Rummikub, poker, wine-o bingo with wine. We’ve learned to play Mexican Train and Joker, a popular marbles game here. There are lots of games we know and some we’ve never heard of. It’s a fun way to get to know everyone too.”
