From holiday parties and musical performances to recipe exchanges and decorating competitions, seasonal traditions run deep—and we’re delighted to share some of them with you right now.
A Winter Wonderland, Macon Style
Although the Marshall Tucker Band might have sung about a “Snowfall in Georgia,” Macon typically experiences less than one inch of frozen precipitation each year. That doesn’t stop our senior living community from decking the halls with shining lanterns, festive jingle bells, wreaths, and Christmas trees decorated in every way imaginable—from animal prints to swans. You can (almost) feel Jack Frost nipping at your nose.
One highly anticipated holiday tradition at Carlyle Place is our East Wing open house, where residents can enjoy good company surrounded by the wreaths, ornaments, floral arrangements, and family heirlooms that adorn their neighbors’ homes. Residents of our garden homes also like to share their creative decorating skills by welcoming their neighbors for an evening of cheer, fellowship, and a freshly baked cookie or two.
Twinkling lights take center stage in downtown Macon, too, particularly at the annual Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza. You don’t have to look far to spot residents of Carlyle Place marveling at this colorful canopy of one million lights synchronized to Christmas carols—and arranged by the Macon Pops orchestra. It’s a truly magical experience.
Dancing, Singing, Dining, and Other Community Traditions
Holidays are a time to celebrate with friends and loved ones, and being part of a senior living community offers abundant opportunities to socialize and connect with neighbors. At Carlyle Place, we take mixing and mingling to the next level with our annual Holiday Ball. On this enchanted evening, residents dress to the nines and enjoy a scrumptious buffet before dancing the night away to classic tunes performed by The Little Big Band.
Speaking of music, our resident-organized Carlyle Choristers choir never fails to impress at their annual Christmas concert, which draws a packed house year after year. If you’re not already in the holiday spirit, you will be when you hear these joyful voices sing a mix of classic tunes, timeless hymns, and contemporary favorites.
It wouldn’t be the holidays without tables filled with delicious food, and Carlyle Place just happens to have the best retirement community dining in Macon, thanks to Chef Marie Carlson. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve, our gourmet dining venues are filled with enough fresh, seasonal treats to satisfy any craving. (Fun fact: Our residents love sharing their holiday recipes.) Tasty food is only the beginning, though. Dining together promotes social wellness, cultivating meaningful bonds among neighbors. Lively dinner conversation also helps minimize overeating by slowing down food consumption.
Holiday “Thank Yous” for the People Who Make Our Retirement Community Shine
There is a tremendous amount of mutual admiration between employees and residents at Carlyle Place—so much so, that they think of each other as family. As with any family, the holidays are a time to express gratitude for making every day special.
Every December our residents host a Christmas party to honor the employees of our Georgia Life Plan Community. It is a jolly event featuring laughter, food, a visit from Santa, and plenty of hugs to go around.
Carlyle Place doesn’t allow tipping, but every year residents pool their money to give our valued staff members a year-end bonus, which is distributed during the annual get-together. It’s a heartwarming celebration of the fellowship and appreciation that Carlyle Place residents have for our exceptional staff who go above and beyond to serve them.
