Carlyle Place Gives Back

Social accountability and volunteer opportunities are important to both the staff and the residents here at Carlyle Place. We’re happy to not only receive from our local community but to also give back to it. We believe there’s always room to make the world we live in a better place, and we’re so happy to have residents who share the spirit of altruism with us! Many of our residents participate in, or even lead, the many community service projects organized to support local businesses we host in the community. To date, our residents have donated thousands of hours to these community service projects.

Every month, Carlyle Place prepares and delivers lunches for Loaves & Fishes, a local faith-based organization with a mission to serve and improve the quality of life for the poor and homeless. Every week, residents assist with making tie blankets for the local children’s hospital. Every year, Carlyle Place facilitates the Salvation Army Angel Tree Project, a program designed to help provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children in need around the country. Carlyle Place also participates in the Stuff the Turkey Food Drive, which collects food for local food banks supporting in-need members of the Macon community.

At the beginning of each academic year, residents collect and donate school supplies for Sonny Carter Elementary. On a small-scale basis, residents take advantage of Amazon Smile, where they can donate a percentage of their purchases to their favorite charitable organizations. They also can use Amazon Smile to purchase items from wish lists created by charities in need of donations.

Carlyle Place also participates in a variety of fundraising projects. In February, the community raised money to donate to the American Heart Association. This past June, Carlyle Place hosted a fundraising opportunity for the Alzheimer’s Association. One of the residents, Doug Scharp, held a silent auction of his incredible woodworking pieces, and he raised $7,000+ in donations!

As we move into November, we’d like to highlight how we honor and give back to our nation’s veterans who work hard to defend our nation’s sovereignty. In addition to a wall honoring Carlyle Place veterans, the local chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars will be hosting a program with music and a guest speaker. There will also be a slideshow to celebrate current Carlyle Place veterans. Residents will also be making cards for active U.S. military members in coordination with the USO.

Carlyle Place is excited to continue performing service projects for the local partners, such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia, Goodwill Industries and Adopt-a-Highway. The community continues to run an ongoing recycling program that has recycled more than 100,000 pounds of cardboard and other material, and helped the community cut its operating costs as well as fight the ongoing climate crisis.

When you move to Carlyle Place, we implore you to get involved with community events and participate in service projects.
